your poems Beccy are as earthy and heartfelt as they are indexical; varying in reference with the individual speaker I, here, now. Never those other worldly observations or of mystical
alien touching. But a person in a room, in a bed, next to you, smiling back, absorbed in a
book of wizards but not identifying as one, incurious but curious, then posing as the picture
of the coming man.
Anyone who has children can easily relate, with a tear in their eye, to this sweetly written piece about a son, and the man we believe he shall grow up to be ...
I adore your voice throughout this poem. It seems very controlled; intellectual and slightly superior.
The word choice is so perfect and the lines flow smoothly. I particularly enjoyed the lines, 'gave me a smile that contained more words than your book,' sort of a play on "a picture is worth a thousand words". Incredibly clever.
I'm not sure your intention of this poem, but it sort of seems like the narrator is checking this guy out- he's average, but he notices her. Relating this to the title, I would assume that she "falls in love" with him at first sight (but of course, it wouldn't be the first time). That's just how I interpreted it, and I think it's very cute and relatable. Lovely work.
I chortled when I saw the title - a unique twist on an olde cliche -
I loved the rest assuredness of this piece - the long comfortable silence; the non-judgemental observation all the little things that real couples in real love - with nothing to hide - do day and daily and are happy enough. I dont know how you do it...
cleverly titled... so much can be expressed with just a "look".. I love those moments just watching someone and by knowing them so well, you can know what is going through their mind.. the little mannerisms.. and this one tugs on the heartstrings as I think back to my little brother who I recently lost.. we had that bond.. beautifully moving piece.. well done as always my friend.. I really enjoyed this..
I'm forty four, single and have a lovely fifteen year old son called Charlie. I've been writing poetry and short stories since I can remember. I have always been an assiduous reader of poetry and real.. more..
