In Between

In Between

A Poem by Rebecca Leigh

In Between

Once independent, fierce, and headstrong.

I am losing myself in the way I feel for you

I was an army of one,

a ruler of my own.

Now all my thoughts turn to you,

I changed my appearance to fit your mold,

Of your attraction.

Not even considering making a retraction.

I drive miles just for the slightest chance to see you,

to be present with you,

It never happens.

I know I am too good for you,

But my mind and heart battle.

Your actions can be kind,

but more often than not,

They are not.

You twist situations and make me out as the fool,

never have I ever,

been in love with anyone who doesn't want to see me.

Sometimes you act like I am the one you want,

At others, I am an obligation

I am trapped in the limbo of you.

Set me free,

Tell me what you want,

Beacause I am going insane.

It is easy to lose the self and yet we can't...we have to stay true to ourselves in order to remember the whys of the connection, sad when this is not reciprocated...

So sorry for the delay... Thank you for your insight :)
wow this is a tough situation...that feeling of being torn between self-assuredness and insecurity...but yes, tough when we need the approval of others to decide our self-esteem...
love the line about being "too good for you"---
like i don't want you anyway...but i hate that you don't want me.
