Guardians IntoA Story by TannerThe boy looked at picture of his father with admiration. The young boy wanted to make his father proud, and grow up to be exactly like him someday. Grown up already told him that he looked more his father with every passing day due to his brown hair, green eyes, and tan skin. Soon, the boy thought, he would be big just like his father, and fight bad guys from all Kingdoms in order to protect the King and Queen of Avon. His father was one of the fierce Guardian's, known far and wide for their unrivaled swordsmanship. It was said that one Guardian was stronger than twenty men, and this boy’s father was one of the strongest, no one could ever best his father. His father was such a great Guardian that he was known all around the kingdom as Gregor, the great and powerful. “Ren!” the boy’s mother called to him. “Your father will be home any minute now, come in and wash up.” The boy named Ren ran inside, and through the wooden sword that he had been practicing with against the wall. He knew if he left it on the ground his mother would take it away, and he wanted to have it so he could spar with his father when he got home. “Do you think father will have any exciting stories for us?” Ren’s eyes lit up with excitement at the thought of the tales his father would tell him. “I certainly hope not,” the mother said quietly, but not quiet enough for Ren to not hear her. “Mom there’s no reason to worry, father is the greatest of all the Guardians.” Ren loved his father, and believed that his father was invincible. No man could ever best the great and powerful Gregor, and no man ever had, until then at least. When the knock came to the door everything seemed normal, Ren jumped out his seat with excitement, and his mother ran to the door prepared to embrace her husband. Thought, her husband wasn’t at the door. Ren came around the corner and to see men wearing their Guardian symbols, and then he noticed that his mother was crying. The eight year old didn’t understand why she was so upset, father was home now, wasn’t he? Then he saw it, his father’s symbol, the wolf, in the hands of one of the other Guardians. Knowing what this meant the boy’s eyes were filled with water, because he would never see his father again.© 2017 Tanner |
