If Only

If Only

A Poem by Alicia Hirshey

If only I was her
With hair of curls
Beauty undefined
Not afraid to read between the lines
Always moving forward
A smile on her face
Helping others
So they won’t decay
~*~
Instead I stand
Pen in hand
Hiding disgust
Moving on with lust
Monstrous creature
You have made me
I’m not perfect
It’s not hard to see
~*~
Her eyeliner is just right
She is always in site
Knows just what to say
When you are having an off day
If only I was thinner
Blonde to the root
Then would you notice me
Like she does you
~*~
Amazing clothes
Perfectly pressed
Never once losing
Fashion with it
She knows where she is going
How to get ahead
Nothing will stop her
She’s planned it in her head.
~*~
Organization failure
My hair is a mess
I don’t understand
How she keeps on like this
She is so perfect
The kind I wish I could be
But why bother trying
I am only me
~*~
Picture perfect
She makes a scene
Intelligent outpour
She is never mean
Pointing out problems
Saving people from hell
Why can’t I be like that
I need help
~*~
I don’t want to change
Who I am inside
A few pin pricks
And erased lines
Outside perfection
I would be nice
I want to be normal
Not have to hide.
~*~
Random outbursts
She loves to have
Making life fun
Treat for the sad
Instead I stand
Facing it alone
When will she see
I’m not the girl she knows
~*~
I’m not like you
We’re different in so many ways
Dreamful depression
Has caused me to stray
I wish I could be you
For just one day
Finally see
How you hide yours away.

The human story does not always unfold like a mathematical calculation on the principle that two and two make four. Sometimes in life they make five or minus three; and sometimes the blackboard topples down in the middle of the sum and leaves the class in disorder and the pedagogue with a black eye. ~Winston Churchill

We always wish to be someone who we see as perfect. Those around us seem perfect when we compare them to ourselves. Though those people are different, we must remeember that we are more alike than different...despirte how it all seems or plays out. We all have our flaws, and even the perfect aren't so perfect. On the insde, they are a mess just like us. They just hide it from what they project on their outer skin.

I can feel the jealousy and resentment in this piece. I know all this from experience, so it really reaches out to me. Good write.

She is not perfect, because no one is. You are perfect in your own way, embrace your flaws. If you have to change for a person, then they're not worth it. If only you could see they beauty and kindness inside yourself.

I think everyone feels like this sometimes.

Better to be hated for who you are than to be loved for who you are not.

Very good poem, i like how you portray a common situation in an uncommonly seen perspective. I know that feeling, and have seen it in others. And so i suggest that everyone lives and loves by the above quote as i do. Because we are who we are, whether it is liked or not. You cannot change who you are, and so you have accept it even if you are the only one who does. A favorite.

Amazing outpouring of emotion. No one is perfect, we all have skeletons in our closet. I suppose that all one can do is just be the best person we can possibly be. Well written Ali
