Closing The Book

Closing The Book

A Poem by Alicia Hirshey

Forgiving you was easy
If only forgetting is
I tried to go day to day
but the past is always present
I refused to let us fade away
Playing games of pretend
After all
You were my one true friend
As days go on
The longing will go away
But I can’t seem to get past
When the truth unfolded
Slapped me in my face.
~*~
No angry words
Will leave my mouth
Leaving on good terms
If only you knew
How bad leaving the past hurts
I loved you once
And still do to this day
But there are certain thing
That just won’t go away
~*~
Amazing friendship
Great while it lasts
I cannot sit here
And sulk on days long past
Moving forward
Wishing you the best
I hope you get all you want from life
Hopefully more but nothing less
~*~
Closing this chapter
Our story comes to an end
Forever longing
To get it back again
All this wishful thinking
Won’t make this go away
But I will not sit here
And refuse to face today
~*~
A place in my heart
Bigger than most
I hold you dear
Even after our story has gotten old
Friendships can be forgotten
But a true friend never will
Forgiving you was easy
But forgetting never will
~*~
Fun filled nights
Pictures I will forever relive
Holding each memory
On a shelf where it may live
Simple I’m sorry
Helpful as it may seem
Will never fix
What has fallen apart
We will both pay because of it.
~*~

I refused to let us fade away
Playing games of pretend

Author's Note

Alicia Hirshey
I wanted to forgive and forget. I tried so hard and it's not fair that you should have to suffer because I can't. Best friend, You were always there. I will not throw around mean names. I will not say anything I will regret. It's easy to forgive but the extent of the hurt has made it impossible to forget. I wish you the best. Don't worry about me. I'll get what I want out of life.

The most powerful lines, and you made them the tip of the sword. Very well constructed, a favorite.

Betrayal from a best or close friend hurts so much. It's hard to get past it, but the best thing to think is that it will get better!
