Silenced Cries

Silenced Cries

A Poem by Alicia Hirshey

Feed me chemicals
Melt away my brain
All of this
To save your race
What about me
Or mine at home
Killing me
What does that show
Greater good
Is always in tact
But how does it feel
To slaughter the facts
Viruses kill
Even me
Take me away
Set me free
Cruel testing
What will the statistic show
Nothing more
Than killing me slow
~*~
Price of beauty
Are you willing to pay
Establishing safety
Do you really see it that way
Irritating my skin
Taking my vision
Toxicity
Is killing from within
Simple life
A pet to some
Will that matter
When all is said and done
Test on humans
Why do it to me
I have never done anything
To deserve this scene
Testing on me
Won’t prove a thing
Only show
How it will affect me
We are two different beings
~*~
Household cleaners
You make me inhale
Just to see
How much time until it kills
Immune won’t save
Your fighting my life
Giving me up
Just to buy you time
What about me
And the life I place
Killing many
To save some
Your day will come
When I enter the sun
~*~
Medical experiment
Lets prove it’s safe
Burning me
Leaving your trace
Poisoned blood
In my veins run thin
Isolated
Hiding from your sin
Starving my nature
To save yourself
Restraining me
When I call for help
Addicted to drugs
Of which I’ve been fed
Brain damage
It’s killing from within
~*~
Curious minds
Drove to this place
On sided thinking
Won’t save this day
Exact numbers
Cannot be place
When will you take the blame
Breaking the law
It should be a sin
What your doing
Is killing many
In sin
~*~
Horrid timing
Mutilating us all
Killing some
Aiming to please
Nothing but pain
Our children cry at the sight
What does it prove
Nothing you say can make this right
Experiment on others
To save yourself
Giving into a battle
Leading us to hell
Lethal injections
When things don’t play out right
What makes this okay?
It isn’t right

Author's Note

Alicia Hirshey
More than 100 million animals every year suffer and die in cruel chemical, drug, food and cosmetic tests, biology lessons, medical training exercises, and curiosity-driven medical experiments. Exact numbers aren't available because mice, rats, birds and cold-blooded animals who make up more than 95 percent of animals used in experiments are not covered by even the minimal protections of the Animal Welfare Act and therefore go uncounted.

I actually started to tear up. I worked at the ASPCA for a year and a half and I know the brutality bestowed upon innocent animals very well. I cannot tell you how much my heart breaks when I see that no matter how much we protest and try to make things right, we will never truly see an end to the bitterness that is animal cruelty.

So sad, but beautiful and strong

I remember in class we watched how animals are treated in the fur industry. The cruelty and the violence that are used to kill and torture these animals for the amusement of those monsters is sickening and breaks my heart. I will never be able to get the image of a animal getting an electric rod shoved up its anal canal. The scream and the hearing of the sizzle as it burned it from the inside out is branded into my hearing. It makes no sense the way people treat animals, helpless. Why torture them like that. If you must kill them do it quick and cause the least amount of pain. Make it so they have no time to suffer and register what happen. But to do what these fur traders and others like that do is sickening and disgusting....you poem is powerful and immediately brought me back to the time in class and watching that movie. Moving and heartfelt and a touch a of reality for those who want to play like they do not see what is going on. Good job

This is so sad. I love animals and I hate to see them suffer. I love how you expressed this from the animal's eyes; it has a great impact.

i agree with you completely...to cure is right but to cure at the expense of other lives is not curing, it's killing!
wonderfully well-written!
