Family Ties

Family Ties

A Poem by Alicia Hirshey

Man to some

Daddy to me

Always there

Looking after me

Stepfather to some

To me

Just love

Raising me

Like one of your sons

Love overflowing

Saving this place

Loving you so much

I will never stray

Daddy there

When I was in despair

Through my darkest hour

You always cared

*

Biological relation

Father of mine

Turned against the world

Gave up his love

For his new girl

Endless smoking

Drugged binge

Giving up everything

Letting it consume him

Endless days

Spent to find

He doesn’t  love me

I was never worth his time.

*

Oldest brother

Hero I hold dear

Saving this country

Everyday over there

Gone for so long

I miss you near

Holding on to the memory

Of the nights

They stay so clear

Three little children

Who you have set the pace

Endless battle

You save us from this place

Solider to many

Brother to me

Always showing

Where I hope to be

Loving the memories

Hold me fond

Countless memories

Bring back the fun

*

Older brother

Only by a few years

Words can’t describe

What you have taught me here

Fun filled nights

We always survived

Holding on

As we went for a ride

Conversations

Spoke to my face

Always holding me

In my place

*

Sister younger

Only in age

Teach me beauty

In everyday

Loving you for always

Light will never go away

Losing the battle

Never straying away

Endless beauty

Shining from your face

Smile melts the hearts

Thousand years to trace

Friendship unfolding

No silence in the night

Always there

Letting me know that I’m alright.

*

Younger sister

Beauty is true

Never once

Losing sight of you

Enchanted forests

Plague your dreams

Let it be

It’s part of a greater scheme

Never not knowing

Who was to blame

Never once caring

She refuses to change.

*

Younger brother

The baby

The runt

Little terror

Only to some

Loving the moment

I first saw your face

Holding you close

In the hospital that day

Little bubba

I hold you close to me

Always there

I love your company

*

Oldest son

Stood by my side

Holding my hand

Guiding me to the light

Big boy steps

From learning to crawl

Unconditional love

He has it all

Far away

At his father he stays

Waiting for the day

He could come home

*

Little birdie

Lessons so sweet

Ever caring

Won’t except defeat

Endless chatter

Learning to crawl

Everyday is an adventure

For us all

Crying at times

Endless fight

Into the night.

Any discussion

For you will suffice

As long as I hold you

Close in the night

This poem was originally supposed to be a project with my best friend Robin but we were only using Four family members. And I wanted to tell all my family how much I love them, So here is the full version. Bit's will still be in our new poem, but I wanted to share the original.
