Lithium Embrace

Lithium Embrace

A Poem by Alicia Hirshey

"Before you Judge me, Learn about what I go through. Learn about the battles I face on a daily basis."-Ali Gay

Medication induced
Method stability
Depression leaning
Happiness appealing
Reaching out
Walking in place
*
Endless methods
Learning to cope
Nothing will save me
What if I lose hope?
Longing for something
More of a life
*
Lithium embrace
Hold me dear
Control me
Keep me here
Holding me closely
Saving with grace
Staying with you
As you protect me
*
Losing loved ones
Can’t keep the feeling away
Sometimes it’s easier
To drug it away
Disorder to none
Only to some
Where would you go
If you had no where to run?
*
Losing myself
Fighting with time
Depression is deep
Not a state of mind
Losing a battle
Waged within myself
Longing for more
Welcoming the help
*
Interaction
Simple for some
How can this be
When it makes me want to run
Catching liveliness
Infectious like sin
Your words bring me down
It should be a sin.
*
Simple words
That mean nothing to some
Kill me inside
Biting the dust
Stupidity
A word they all place
Faker
Your afraid to face the day
*
Longest nights
I’ve ever spent
Losing sleep
Won’t slow me down
Won’t give in to it
*
Spouts of depression
They go on for months
Dark episodes
Are something I know
Falling down
Into this dark black hole.
*
Lithium embrace
Hold me dear
Control me
Keep me here
Holding me closely
Saving with grace
Staying with you
As you protect me
*
Losing myself
Fighting with time
Depression is deep
Not a state of mind
Losing a battle
Waged within myself
Longing for more
Welcoming the help
*
Medication induced
Method stability
Depression leaning
Happiness appealing
Reaching out
Walking in place
*
Endless methods
Learning to cope
Nothing will save me
What if I lose hope?
Longing for something
More of a life

Author's Note

Alicia Hirshey
Tomorrow I go back to the doctor for another mental evaluation. They want to make sure that my Bipolar hasn't gotten worse. They are messing with my medication. There are talks of Lithium. From what I have researched while on the Lithium I will finally discover what it is like to be happy. What it is like to leave this depression behind me. As I face tonight, I find myself more nervous than some. What awaits me is unknown. And I am afraid of the unknown. This is a memoir to What I go through on a daily basis. The struggles I face. I know that this won't tell you what having Bipolar Disoder is like but I hope that it does give you some insight.

Hey Ali, thank you for being so open with us here on writer's caf. I hope your evaluation goes smoothly, and you get the help you need. It sucks feeling like there is something wrong with you, ad that you can't get the help you need. Deep poem like always.

I think we are all afraid of the unknown. A brilliant write on a subject that many are not familiar with.
