Beautiful Lessons

Beautiful Lessons

A Poem by Alicia Hirshey
"

for my little birdie

"

There is a garden in every childhood, an enchanted place where colors are brighter, the air softer, and the morning more fragrant than ever again.  ~Elizabeth Lawrence

Spring leaves

Starting to form

Little vest

By you is worn

Beautiful picture

Painted in my head

Letting me know

I’m nowhere near dead

pine needles cover the ground

On the slide

We go up and down

Little swing

What a treat

Inside of it

Laughter so sweet

On the grass

Dew has dissolved

Sitting there

Letting time pass

It’s the calm

Before the storm

Biggest tree

What wonders it hides

Never really knowing

The story inside

Little eyes

Opened so wide

Never once questioning

The glory outside

Picture perfection

You are adored.

Watching ants

Crawl from place to place

Grabbing a flower

Natures beauty you crave

Never once questioning

Your purpose here

My son,

Your smarter than your years

Vibrant child

Eager to see

What is hiding

In the ordinary

Spring leaves

Starting to form

Little vest

By you is worn

A dedication to my youngest son.

These are the days where doorknobs are unreachable, the summer is long, and tomorrow never gets here. Words cannot describe how happy I am to learn about life once more with you.

Wow. I wish I had a mom as caring as you to write these words and just give out love. I have the type of parent that's shut down emotionally and she doesn't even want anything to do with her kids, she chose her many boyfriends over us. She still asks about me all the time in text messages my sister says but she doesn't have the courage to call me herself or anything ever. Guess as she ages she feels guilty, but that's all it is, she doesn't recognize her wrongs, she just wants me to do or say anything that will help her sleep peacefully at night on what she did, on all of what she did. She walked out a long time ago and never came back. *He will look at this poem as a symbol of your strength, a reason for why you fight your depression and keep on going, he will always be there for you as he gets older, I'm sure of it, never lose that bond because when you do with your child starting out so young and going into as he year progresses you may never gain it back to return.

This reminds me of the song "The Best Days" by Taylor Swift. Mostly the line from the song that says "I don't know why all the leaves change in the fall." It's a sweet poem and Mister Matthew will love it when he gets older =]
