Is This What We Are To Become?

Is This What We Are To Become?

A Poem by Alicia Hirshey

Everything is fading from me.
The pain inside,
Has finally overcome me.
The look in your eyes,
No longer looks the same,
Almost like your drifting away,
And leaving me here alone once again,
To take the blame.
I am no longer certain,
That it is I,
That you hold dear.
For if it was,
Wouldn't you attempt to be here?
I must be crazy,
I gave up everything for you,
And now I can see what it has gotten me,
Absolutely nothing,
But a life full of fear.
Maybe I'm Paranoid,
That could be so,
But it's not stopping the feeling,
Of you letting us go.
You Promised me forever.
I hope that it remains to hold true,
The only person capable of taking it,
Happens to be you.
