Split Personality

a quick add of something i wrote.

Wondering what is wrong with me,

As my personality splits…

Wondering if these mental demons

Finally got the best of me.

 

I’m in love with the idea of love,

Feeling comfort in your embrace

Lingering in your world of romance

As I yearn to never be alone.

 

There is another side of me,

That you don’t seem to see

When you’re gone and I’m alone

Feel like crying an ocean of tears.

 

I am chained to my mind

Wanting so desperately to break free.

I knew the comfort and sweetness

Getting lost in brighter days.

 

Quivering in fear,

Like a silly little child

No matter how hard I try

These demons won’t let me be.

 

But with you, all my demons

Simply fade away,

Entering back in to my land of brighter days

Feeling comfort in your embrace.

You are NOT in love with the idea of love;
you are truly in love, with the human you love,
(I would take from this poem, anyways)
and I believe the love is requited just the same.
Can you imagine having that love in reality,
even on days with said demons,
as an understanding love would complete a person's yearning for the idea of love most of all;
the things you could write! The stories to create!
True love, in the flesh, to unfold...

I really enjoyed this. A nice comparison between mental illness and love, and how love is able to heal and protect us from the demons within our own minds. I really liked the lines "I knew the comfort and sweetness / Getting lost in brighter days." That's really pretty, great job!
