Toy Slodier and His Fragile BallerinaA Poem by Jennifer Ellen
Toy Soldier,
Standing so proud, Facing the commander. Commanding out loud, Fragile little ballerina, Standing so still, Facing her audience, Waiting for the music to spill, Drum at the ready, Sticks in his hand, Drumming so steady, Crossing this no man’s land, The music begins to flow, As the twirling starts, And she starts to glow, As she captures all their hearts, Marching to the battle, Keeping up the steady pace, Heart so brittle, Its in for a long wait, Catching the roses, Moving swiftly off stage, Not looking at the strangers faces, They just blend onto one page, The bullets start to fly, The battle has begun, Men begin to die, Just because of this gun, Fragile ballerina with her roses, So tired of being stuck on this stage, All she has are these razorblades, And she lets the blood drop onto this page, Poor little toy soldier, Shot in the heart, Never to know of love, Right from the start, But back to the beginning, To find true love, Lets get our hearts pounding, Lets find true love, Toy soldier, Fragile ballerina, Watching the fragile dancer, Watching him from the corner of her eye, What they don’t know, Poor reader, Is that they are about to fall in love, With one glance, Toy solider, Fragile Ballerina, In love with one glance, The one to seal their fate, So we end this story, With a happy ending, With love and happiness. © 2010 Jennifer Ellen |
