Under Your Foot

Under Your Foot

A Poem by Beatrice Mars

We're saving our memories

For tomorrow,

Hoping it'll be a warmer

Day.

But

(Your cuts sting)

You stepped in

Gum and as you

Pull your foot away

From the road

(You wonder why there's

Gum in the middle of the

Road)

It stretches

(Like cheese on a pizza)

Long, thin

And sticky.

It snaps

And you walk away,

Unaware

The story of your life

Just played out underneath your foot.
