From 'The Circus'A Poem by Beatrice Mars
Human sweat and
Blood. Burning flesh and Sugar, We stink. Sticky and sweet, You are too close to me. Twisted lumps of metal Loom above us like Giant spiders And we can hear the screams Of children in the Distance. We question their excitement, Up there on the spiders. Flashing lights make Our heads scream out loud And cast shadows Of Zombies, Marching from (attraction to attraction) Spider to spider, They're unable to register That they're leaving The smiles far away. The fire eaters are Burning from the inside out And without wires trapeze artists Make cracks and crunches With their Twists and turns. But with blood dripping from their Costumes They've got me hooked, (Line and sinker) (let's run away from the circus) © 2010 Beatrice MarsAuthor's Note
