Dragons and Glitter and Ghosts and Witches

Dragons and Glitter and Ghosts and Witches

A Poem by Beatrice Mars

I would have
Loved
The '80's
(And the '60's
And the '70's)
I've been
Told.
(All that glitter.)

I've been
Popping
Bubble wrap.
(Now my
Fingers
Are rubbed
Raw.)

I do not believe
In witches,
But I do
Not doubt
That they
Exist.

I wanted to
Run,
To scream
And
Shout,
For,
Stood before
Me,
Not a ghost,
But the
Dragon himself.
(Bathed in glitter.)

I couldn't
Stop.
(I was running
To a stand
Still.)

But that wasn't
Good
Enough.
(Never is.)

My garbled
                    Version
                              Of
                                  Events
                                     Came
Spilling out,
I was talking
Of monsters.
                                    (Dragons and glitter
          And ghosts and
                     Witches.)
I was talking
So fast
I started
To choke.
I started
To cough
And,
Up came
(Up chucked.)
Glitter
And
Wishes.
   (All mixed up
    In tears
                 And
     Stomach acid.)

I am
(The watchdog)
watching
The
T.V
And surfing
Endlessly
On The
Internet.
          (Looking for signs of
                 The witches
                               And
                Ghosts.)
I Must have
Ran
My
Hand
Through
My hair
A
Hundred
Times
And still
I can't
(Eat the)
Get the
Glitter
Out.

Tears about
My
Cheeks,
Running through
My Make Up.
(Mixing up the glitter.)

Oh I can't
Go on
Stage
Now.

I'll do It!

(The dragons roared.)

Give me another
Chance,
Let me
Prove myself.

They all
Agreed
That was alright.

Except
            (The exception to the rule.)

"Well Thats all
Ok,
Mr. Dragon,"
Said The Witch
"But I'd like to
Know,
What did you
Do
With your
First
Chance?"

I Would've
Loved
The '80's,
(I've been told.)
But I'm not to sure.
(I can't stand shoulder pads.)

Thanks for the rather odd but entertaining excursion, Beatrice. (No shoulder pads aren't too cool. I like bell bottoms, though)
