Sun on the Pavement (but not really.)

Sun on the Pavement (but not really.)

A Poem by Beatrice Mars

Yeah I don't
Think I can
Do this again,
(Oh well)
Long legs
Skinny waist?
What I wanted,
What I Had,
What they said I couldn't have.

And yes, I know
I'm repeating myself,
But that’s what
We do.
(The Teenage girl.)

So I got,
Scars on my arms,
From when I was an emo,
Scars on my brain,
From when I was a chav,
And I got
Scars on my ideals
From when the
TV People
(Big people)
Said
I should have
Long legs,
Skinny waist.
(Skin stretched over
Ribs and bones.)

Scars from
When they said
Ours not to wonder why,
Ours just to get on with it
And ignore as much as
We can.

(Aint that original.)

But we need
More than just
A "new" administration
To get over
(Our emo arms
Our chav brains)
The scars on our ideals.

And I'm sorry
I can't see what you see
(But I'm wearing sunglasses)
I just can't dance,

(My life away.)

And what's with
This influx of
Stupidity?
Don't you want
To do anything?
(About something)

Nah

     You just want,

Long legs
                   (Emo arms)

Skinny waist

                   (Chav Brains)

Skin stretched over
Ribs and bones

(Scars on our Ideals.)

The Suns gone

Behind clouds,

It don't dance

On pavements anymore.

(Yeah I know I'm contradicting myself.)

This is one hell of an interesting poem. The form of it is unique, and I especially like the use of parenthesis.

The media these days is messing with our minds, making us second-guess ourselves and question our looks.
