PROFESSOR OF PAIN

PROFESSOR OF PAIN

A Poem by Bear

Bad dreams and unfulfilled fantasies fill my mind
Breeding intimacy with sorrows of all kind
A nonstop stream of part-time friends
Sharing their pain until their guilty conscious ends
Then disappearing until burdened with another woe
Teaching me another kind of hurt I must know
I try to comfort the ailing spirit
And if the mind overburdened I try to clear it
Submerge myself to lift anyone from a pool of self-pity
Or mend a troubled soul to make it pretty
Morbid and twisted to do this I must be insane
But these are the lessons of a professor of pain
Suffer I shall too learn life's way
For it's my life's calling and in pain, I will stay
