SPORTS

A Poem by Bear

Some see the thrill of victory as life's greatest feet
Others as just mans aggressive need to compete
With sports a boy may rise from poverty on the street
And by the pro-ranks prove the system can be beat
To know a moment of fame captured in a touchdown run
Or how one feels inside at the sound of a starters gun
Then there's your heart pounding in your ears so loud
It almost drowns out the roar of the screaming crowd
So why don't I do it you ask, why don't I play the game
Don't I want the thrill, the rush, the fortune and the fame
Yes I do but there are reasons why I can't participate
You see my fall from sports was a simple act of fate
My father and grandfather both were great with the game
I thought it destiny that I to would one day prove my name
I dreamed of being a Nike, Adidas or the champ Converse
Maybe I would even end up on the feet of a Mr. universe
But that was not to be, for life had other plans for me
It brought my downfall as a fashionable trend you see
Now my arenas are the discos and any club's dance floor
Because I am to dam cute for the young ladies to ignore
I'm just a fashion statement for any mod pleasure seeker
With dreams of one day being a record holding sports sneaker

In my opinion, his weak determination was his downfall, he has only the heritage of his father's and grandfather's glory, but never took a step forward to accomplish that glory. it is sad when someone has the fundamentals of being great, but seeks what is less.

Thank you for sharing, my dear friend.

Insight.

Bravo! Live is not preordained, you live it or let your self be trapped by it :~)
I really enjoy personification pieces. This one is fun, and a little heartbreaking at the same time (those poor, poor shoes). And might I add that your double entendre did not go unnoticed in the first line: "...life's greatest feet".

Another nice one, Bear!

It was witty of you to catch that, and thank you I am glad you enjoyed it :~)
I love the imagery here. That rush of adrenaline.. how it feels. hmm.. I for one will never stop playing- and my shoes get used! Sure people buy baby nikes- that look cute for their child (guilty) but you know it is more than a fashion statement for some. I just do not see any sense in wasting a perfectly good pair of sports shoes just to look cute in them. Use the damn things. :)

Realistic aspirations shunned by fate.
A nice piece bear! Imagery is just spot on!
"Then there's your heart pounding in your ears so loud
It almost drowns out the roar of the screaming crowd" I almost heard the crowd cheering and then suddenly silence fell only heartbeats were audible.

I am not much into sports, but I still felt the sheer passion in between the lines.
True story?
