At the Bottom of the Liquor BottleA Poem by Dalton Wagoner
At the bottom of the Liquor Bottle
I saw I was out again I am on my third bottle And not a penny to my name I was trying to get drunk enough To alleviate my shame At the bottom of the Liquor Bottle I saw us We walked hand-in-hand We went in for the kiss We frolicked and played We were full of bliss At the bottom of the Liquor Bottle I saw us again We were fighting and screaming I made you cry You threatened to leave me I knew you wouldn't say goodbye At the bottom of the Liquor Bottle I saw myself Damp like my face from the tears And smelling of alcohol pure It was dark like life without you But I guess that's something I must inure © 2017 Dalton WagonerAuthor's Note
