Torn Between Two Worlds: New Discoveries - Chapter OneA Chapter by Be.My.Love.StoryThis is my first chapter, so it's not that great. It'll get better!Bleep Bleep Bleep. Bleep Bleep Bleep. Amanda Miller woke bright and early at 7:00 am on a Wednesday morning. She walked across the old wooden floors and opened the pane glass windows. She inhaled deeply and shivered in the cool winter air. It was mid-February, but there was still some snow left on the ground. She threw on a blue oversized sweater, and worn out jeans that fit perfectly on her slender legs. After applying mascara on her long lashes, she quickly ran down the stairs. "Happy birthday sweetyyy," her Mother screeched in excitement. "I made your favorite breakfast for your special day!!" She shoved her a plate of chocolate chip pancakes as Amanda sat down. Ever since Amanda was five years old, she would always have chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast on her birthday. She silently laughed as she remembered the time when her mother accidentally spilt the bowl of pancake batter on the floor, causing her Golden Retriever to lick the floor clean. "Thanks mom." Amanda flashed her a smile with her naturally red lips. As she started eating, her older brother, Sam came stomping down the stairs. His real name is Samson, but everyone calls him Sam. "What's for breakfast?" he asked with half open eyes. He was always so clueless in the morning. "Chocolate chip pancakes. That's what we always have on my birthday, remember?" Amanda reminded him, not surprised that he didn't remember her birthday. Amanda didn't expect anything from him in the morning. "Oh yeah.. happy birthday," he mumbled sleepily as he took a large bite out of his pancake. "Sam, your brain better wake up soon. You are driving me to school today since Dad's car broke down. You can drive without falling asleep, right?" she questioned rather nervously. He was constantly getting in trouble for falling asleep in class. To Amanda's relief, they made it to school safely. She walked to her locker. The school lockers were plum in color, which she adored. She was glad that they weren't dull and gray like it was at other schools. As she started to unload her textbooks, a hand grabbed her shoulder. Slightly startled, she spun around to see the face of a handsome boy. "Liam!" she screeched happily. He was her boyfriend of two years. "Happy sixteenth birthday sweetheart," he said. He kissed sweetly on the lips, which made Amanda's heart automatically beat faster. He ran his fingers through her dark brown, silky hair. They were naturally wavy and went down below her shoulders. She couldn't help but smile whenever she looked into his chestnut brown eyes. "I bought you something," he said as took out a neatly wrapped present out of his backpack. He gently placed it in her hands. The box was the length of pencil, and fairly light. She eagerly took off the wrapping. There was a black case with gold designs on it. She opened it, and inside was a silver heart shaped necklace. On the heart was carved writing that said 'You have my heart'. Surprise, excitement, and pleasure crossed her face in a matter of seconds. She traced her thumb on the carved writing. Her stomach filled with butterflies and her eyes lit up with happiness. "This is the best present anyone has ever given me." It was true, and the wide smile on her face showed it. "Thank you." "It's no big deal. Oh, and it's a locket so you can open it," he explained slightly blushing. She loved how he always made her feel like so special, like she was some princess. She opened the locket necklace and there was a picture of the two of them. It was a picture taken last summer, when they went fishing by a nearby lake. She had her hair in a loose ponytail and he was smiling is irresistible smile. "Should I put it on for you?" he asked hopefully. She gave him a smile and nodded. She moved her hair to the side and turned around. He put the necklace on her and she turned to face him again. They stared at each other for several moments, lost in each other's eyes. Then Amanda forcefully pressed her lips to his. She didn't care that they were in a busy hallway. Right now, no one else existed but her and Liam. After what Amanda thought was not long enough, they separated. Liam was the first to speak again. "Amanda, I'm sorry but I have to go. I'm supposed to meet my math teacher this morning to get some help for this quiz coming up. I'll see you later, okay?" he said apologetically. "Yeah, it's fine. Good luck on the quiz!" She admired him until he was out of sight, and continued to unload her textbooks. Just as she was about to leave her locker, she heard her best friend squeal her name from across the hall. She spun around to see Nadia running towards her in five inch heels. Nadia was the type of girl who never had a problem balancing on heels. A teacher shouted "No running!", but Nadia paid no attention. "Amanda!! Happy birthday!!!" she screamed as she strangled Amanda in a super tight hug. "Nadia, I can hardly breathe!!" she gasped. Nadia released her and gave her an apologetic look. She was wearing a white leather jacket, an emerald green browse, dark skinny jeans, and green heels to match the shirt. She naturally has brown hair, but dyed it to a maroon red colour in seventh grade to bring out her forest green eyes. She had kept it that way ever since. Nadia has been her friend since the age of ten. "Oh, I'm so sorry! I'm just so excited. I have the entire day planned out for us. First I'm going to take you shopping to the best stores in town and I'll buy you anything you want. Also while we are at the mall we can get a manicure! And afterwards we are going to your house, because your parents told me they have a little surprise for you. Then during the sleepover we can play truth or dare, eat cake, prank call, and so on. I have so many things planned out for us!!" she screeched excitedly as though she was high on caffeine. Nadia is the expert of fun, so Amanda trusted her when it came to planning her birthday. Nadia wanted to throw her a huge party, but Amanda just wanted to spend her birthday with her close friends and family. "That sounds great, Nadia. I can't wait for school to end so we can start the fun!!!" "This is going to be the best birthday you will ever have," Nadia said beaming. Little did they know it will also be the most terrifying. © 2010 Be.My.Love.StoryReviews
