A Stage Play by Bevin Walker

CHARACTERS
BROCK-14 years old, and curious
BRODY-16 years old, and has poor judgement
MOM-early 40s
TIME-modern
PLACE-in their house

BROCK

(chasing the dog around the kitchen)

Come on doggy, come here I wont bite, come on


BRODY

(walks into the kitchen)


BROCK

(stands up, stops chasing the dog)

Come on Brody lets go out again, just one more trip, 20 minutes tops!

DOG

(walks stage left)


BRODY

(looks at Brock)

No, I just just got back with dad ten minutes ago

BROCK

(stops chasing the dog and looks up at Brody)

It dosent matter, you need as much practice as possible

BRODY

Still, I only have my permit, I need someone else in the car,

BROCK

I would be in the car!

BRODY

No I need some one else in the car, someone a little older and well taller the nu, but u wouldn’t understand, ur only a stupid 14 year old

BROCK

(stands on tip toes)

I do understand and ha! I will be 15 next week!

BRODY

again not what I ment stupid

BROCK

(walks stage left)

Why dosent he wanna go out driving? He is getting his license next month. He needs as much practice as possible. Like dad always says “practice makes perfect”

BROCK

(exits stage left)


BRODY

Well he does have a valid point . I do have my permit and my parents do say im a good driver.

BRODY

(gets in car in stage right)

Okay im in the car and just going to do a quick drive around the block.

SCENE 2:

BRODY

(walkes stage left into kitchen)

now that wasent so bad....i guess brock was right, and hey im back before mom and dad even got home.

BROCK

(enters stage left)

hey where have you been

BRODY

(looks at car)

non of your buisness

BROCK

oh...okayy

BRODY

im going to walk over to tom’s house, mom and dad should be home soon, take the dog for a walk later.

BROCK

I hope he knows i just saw him pull out and some back home. If i tell mom he would get in sooo much trouble. But that looked like a lot of fun. i wish I was older so I could drive. Looks so easy Im just going to try to do it

SCENE 3

BROCK

now that wasent so bad. I guess driving with grandpa in his golf cart over the summers realy help and when dad took me out driving in his car last week

(walkes stage left)


MOM

(enters stage right)

What the? Someone explain!


BROCK

(enters stage left)

oh hey mom whats up?

MOM

where is your brother?!

BROCK

he went to tom’s house why? is something wrong?

MOM

Yes!!! go outside and look what he did!

BROCK

(walked stage right then back)

oh

MOM

did you know about this?! Im calling him right now hes grounded and hes never getting his lissens, hes not getting a car ever, would you like his care because your the responsible one

BROCK

um

MOM

oh my god it looks like your brother was inside the car, took it out for a joy run then forget to put it in park

MOM

(keeps mouthing)


BROCK

(steps to the side)

The parking break, ugh i knew i was missing something, im so stupid

MOM

right?

BROCK

(steps back)

sure

MOM

(picks up phone and stats dialing)


Im calling him right now

BRODY


hello?

MOM

get home right now ur in huge trouble

BRODY

oh

MOM

oh is right how dare you go behind our backs and drive the car without an adult are you realy that stupid?

BRODY

what?

MOM

yeah the parking break wasent on! so did you like your joy run? cause its the last one you will ever get(hangs up)

BRODY

that parking break? I know I put the parking break on, i-i-i-i double checked how is this possible?(walks stage right)

MOM

now both of you go to your rooms, i will be speaking with you shortly Brody

BROCK

so did you like your joy run?

BRODY

I don’t know.... did you?
