The Spider and the Fly

The Spider and the Fly

A Poem by Baz
"

When the spider met the fly...

"
The big and hairy spider
Saw the juicy little fly
And said "Fly down here beside me.
Don't be nervous. Don't be shy."

But the little fly was wary
And said "Surely it would be
That if i land down there beside you
You will eat me for your tea."

But the spider reassured him
With a warm and friendly smile
"Little friend i shall not harm you
We shall simply talk a while."

And the fly believed the spider
But then much to his dismay
He got caught upon the spider's web
And could not fly away.

"I'm so glad that you could visit me"
The hungry spider said
And then 'round fly she spun a coat
Of sticky silken thread.

"But you said you would not eat me!"
Her entangled victim cried
"I am sorry" grinned the spider
"I'm afraid that i have lied."

So if you are a little fly
Don't ever trust a spider
For if you do its sure that you
Will end your days inside her...

Thanks for the warning.

Yet again the metre is spot on. The rhyme sublime.

Great stuff.

I love this! It has a lovely simple rhyme and story that makes it an appealing piece to all ages, - a great nursery-rhyme-like poem.

What's the best part about is that you've kept the rhyme simple and catchy, just like any famous nursery rhyme. It's fluent and easily rolls on your tongue, another witty trait. What's the biggest turn on about this poem for me is the fact I was in the right 'mood' to read such a piece. My signature style 'Brrrilliant' for this one!

This is great. What is amazing is how you have used a children's poem to elucidate a great truth, much like most nursery rhymes. I like the inherent meter in this poem, and it flows just the way it should. This is a delightful read, one that will make its way into my favorites. Great job!
