My Two Year Old Baby

My Two Year Old Baby

A Poem by Baz
"

He may drive me mad sometimes, but he's still my baby.

"

Paint on the wallpaper, crumbs in his hair.
Toys on the landing and clothes on the stair.
Stains on the curtains and jam on the floor.
That's what my two year old baby is for.

Giving his brother a punch and a kick.
He eats so much chocolate he makes himself sick.
Bumping his forehead and starting to roar.
That's what my two year old baby is for.

Scrapes on the arms and the elbows and knees.
Breaking my cell phone and losing my keys.
Dribble that's oozing from every pore.
That's what my two year old baby is for.

Losing his teddies and breaking his toys.
Making a quite unbelievable noise.

He eats all his candy so then he wants more.
That's what my two year old baby is for.

Climbing on tables and jumping off chairs.
And if I'm not watching he'll fall down the stairs.
The books from the shelf that he "borrowed" and tore.
That's what my two year old baby is for.

But...

To give me a cuddle and kiss me goodnight.
Pulling me closer and squeezing me tight.
I give him so little, he gives me much more.
Now that's what my two year old baby is for!

Oh, this is just the sweetest poem ever! That's a great age and those times are so special. Makes me wish I had another little one. Great cadence and rhyme throughout the poem and I love the lighthearted tone of it, with the very sweet, wntimental ending.

Awww does this ever bring back memories only when my child was 2 she stuffed raisins in my 8-track tape player. You have a wonderful gift for writing entertaining poems with great flow and rhyme, while pointing out the positive things in life. I love all of your work that I have read so far. I am really glad you joined WC.
