Memory

Memory

A Poem by Roberta

Although we're not who we used to be,
we'll always have one memory.
Of being who we really were,
although it went by like a blur.

We held each other, so very tight,
and comforted both through the night.
And memories were etched in mind,
because happiness was easy to find.

Months had passed, and soon later,
my heart felt like my biggest traitor.
I expected it to jump, straight out of my chest,
but for once, it decided to rest.

We awkwardly smiled, but were both thinking,
whilst our hearts were slowly sinking.
Because, we knew it wasn't the same,
and for that fact, we weren't to blame.

Me and you, just grew out of each other,
there was no longer a need to comfort another.
You and I, had grown up quick,
the choice we didn't get to pick.

But there's one place, we can meet again,
where we both won't feel any pain.
It's only for five days a year,
but those days to me, will soon be dear.
And though thousands of days, we'll be apart,
those festival memories, will stay in my heart.
