Like The Rest

Like The Rest

A Poem by Amanda
"

A self poem. A personal experience.

"
I walk amongst the shadows
but never was I one of them.

I couldn't see the stars
or the sky,
for I was like fog.

I blinded all who came
to my front,
I fogged their minds
with my chilled breath.

I couldn't figure out
what was left.

I wanted to be a shadow
like all the rest,
sadly I will never be like
the rest.

I am unique,
I am free,
I am me,
I am autistic
and I can't conform like you can.

My views are unique,
my brain is wired differently.

I will never be like
the rest, doesn't matter
how much I protest.

Please don't be rude. I am autistic and I might make a mistake. Please let me know the correct spelling instead of bulling me about it. Thank you.

All of us are different.
"I will never be like
the rest, doesn't matter
how much I protest."
The above words are true for the all of us. Strength and weaknesses make us who we are. I liked your thoughts and the proper ending. Thank you Amanda for sharing the amazing poetry.

I don't have the same experiences, so my comments are offered largely from an uninformed perspective. Still, I ask, why "protest?" Why not celebrate your uniqueness---as your poem does?

Your poem honors all who live with autism. It's a powerful, revealing piece. Thanks for sharing it.

A fair view of you, and a rare understanding of what YOU means.
