The Old Kind of Woman Still ExistsA Poem by Sermosmith96This is an early poem addressing social issues like the restrictive role of woman in some middle eastern societies. It's somewhat superficial but it covers an good topic. The Old Kind of Woman Still Exists? She was born a girl in a Middle Eastern World. Her Mother cried. Her Father asked Allah “Why?” What good’s a girl ‘cept for men’s merriment and decoration as an ornament? Boys hold power and always make the final decisions. Male supremacy is still the tradition. Girls are inferior and just sit pretty and silent. Swallow own thoughts and accept the pain of violence. Broken noses, gashes, and scars. Reasons why girls mind their places, if they want to keep their bodies and pretty faces. So Mother taught her how to be a woman, how to keep a home. All to please her future’s husband when he’s home. She amazed at cleaning, cooking- no words can describe. She had qualities to make a fine bride. A bride, a servant-her destined role. Can play, praise, work and console. Her husband was her god and keeper. Enslaved to him- few fates are bleaker. She too gave birth to a girl In her Middle Eastern world. And she cried and cried And asked Allah “Why?”
