A Chapter by Bardy

"It is very much better to have a panic feeling beforehand, and then be quite calm when things happen, than to be extremely calm beforehand and to get into a panic when things happen."

Think of it as learning and knowing about an attack upon you of some kind before it happens. You proceed to freak out. By doing so you gather as much information as possible that way you can brace for it because you don't know how severe and how much of it is going to be a bluff. In other words, over shooting. It also gives you a greater chance of succeeding from anything they throw at you and opportunities for an out seen in advance.

Where as if you stay calm and cocky like no one can touch you, you could under shoot and under estimate your opponent (another unwise thing). As well as lessen opportunities for an out if needed. When things actually go south you want to be calm and collected under fire. You want to project an aura of calm and confidence too. It may even intimidate your opponent being so calm.
