Dumb Girl

Dumb Girl

A Poem by Barbara Borel

You feel like the dumbest girl in the world. Because you believed the lies... you were victimized. He told you every thing you wanted to hear. He told you to have no fear. He ripped the heart out of your withered body, as he pulled the strings and made you his puppet. He loved you and you felt your soul rise. But it was all a mystical lie. He was only ghost... unreal..
not real... made up. Why cant you get it! He torched your soul and lit it on fire. Or was it you. You did it to your self. Dreamt, loved, hoped. Put your own head in the guillotine. Stupid Stupid girl ... wise up. There is no such thing as love. Not in this lifetime. Not for you. So crumble back into your shell. Go back to hell. The one you lived in for decades. No one called you here and never will. It was only a ghost.

It's the kind of self-flaggelation that we all have meted out as punishment to ourselves for being human and wanting to believe in the legend of The One. Poets and other romantic souls more so.
It has a function of course - not unlike the antibodies (we also self manufacture) to defend against illnesses.
This resonates deeply with this reader.

Yes wanting to be loved and then it being .... a false love. Is devastating
