A Conversation with God

A Conversation with God

A Poem by Bandersnach

"Oh God,

I love you, and I know you love me.

I recognize your wonderous works in all that I see,

You have blessed me in so many ways,

But I have one question, if I may:

Why is it you don't answer me when I pray?

I am your follower, Oh Lord, and your Word I will always heed,

so shouldn't you grant me all the things that I need?"

Oh Dear Child,

If you know that I love you so dearly

Then you should have realized very clearly

that a Parent knows best for his beloved little one,

and because Im your Father, MY will be done;

I know the difference between "wants" and "needs"

and will not fuel the fire for sinful greed.

And whenever you have prayed to me,

I have always answered, you see;

but because I love you so,

sometimes my answer is simply

"no"

This poem made me smile. The last line, "but because I love you so sometimes my answer is simply 'no'" just took it home for me. I love poems like this that force me to remember the reality of one's relationship with God--more than just master-servant, worshipped and worshiper. It isn't that our prayers are not answered or not listened to; we generally never consider that the answer might be no. Very insightful. Beautiful poem. Write on!

Well that would be about the truest "truth" I've heard(read) all night. That's a good insight to know otherwise you're left struggling with the same 'ol question "Why is it you don't answer me when I pray?" that some people struggle with there whole livees and some completely give up the whole Idea of spirituality because "god doesn't answer," but I guess it's all in how yuh listen :) beautiful piece of writing, thanx for sharing!

Wow, this is a first!:P Well, to be honest, I wanted to write one too, a poem about God and the like, but after reading yours, I won't anymore. :P Yours was perfectly wonderful and delightful, I wouldn't want to ruin it by writing mine. Great write, I loved it!:)

About
Not much to say about me except that writing is the only thing that I'm half-capable of doing. I realized this when a college professor exclaimed that "you are an excellent rhetoric!" and, of course, .. more..
