Flowers

Flowers

A Poem by Hannah!
"

I received a bouquet of roses recently, and as much as I loved them, they got me to thinking...

"

The rose is a pretentious flower—

beautiful, but it looks down its silken

petals at its fellows in the garden,

scoffing at the daisies and the tulips

making fun of lily-of-the-valley,

putting on elaborate, stuck-up airs.

And elegant though sweet rose may be,

it’s not her pride that greatest pleases me,

instead, I love the dandelion best,

who grows in the grass, apart from the rest.

cursed as a weed, reviled much by most,

and yet its yellow petals seem to glow

with an intangible brightness.

Author's Note

Hannah!
I know it starts rhyming halfway through, but that honestly was unintentional. It just happened. Do you think it makes the poem sound...off? It sort of bothers me, but at the same time, I like it.

Also, on an unrelated note: Did you know that every part of the dandelion can be eaten?

Very interesting, this poem.
To write of the perspective of flowers, and botany itself in classes like majesty and meek, and just today I heard someone say
that it is the meek who shall inherit the earth,
and although I am madly in love with the rose,
literally,
=)
a dandelion is the only flower on which one can make a wish.
But still i wish for the rose,
even though i am the lily in the garden,
and even though I always make a wish on a dandelion every chance I get...
I just did yesterday,
and today I wished to see a flower in poetry.
My wish came true!

I did like this but I wonder if its a bit over written? The word silken annoyed me a bit. Over then that, I do like the point of view and I do like the pattering of rhyme.

The imagery is great, I especially like the ending. Oh, and as for my translation, I have no idea about it. I've studied french for four years almost, though I don't know a thing about.
