Rising for the outright IndependenceA Poem by Balkaran SidhuUnite to lend a hand to those who are in need, Unite against them, whose souls are consumed by greed, Unite and lend a hand, and we can change the world, We’re the ones we've been waiting for.I kept on walking through the black world under unknown clouds of poverty It was not my own, it was The collective reduction-ism of our times. The ceaseless pouring of channels Filled with despondent faces It was the post-modern world. A thousand voices called out to me But they did not know they had called It was good and calculated A bounded torrent of our anatomies. Systematized, controlled, blindly led While the government had tonnes of money, infinite resources. Peace pushed just beyond the reach I realized that “hope and change” was just a speech Wars raging within our souls The masses screamed together But did not know or understood why And at the blindness of my spirit I saw the corruption of the new world Totalitarian, fascist, neo-plutocratic This was the moment I woke up from the open-eyed sleep.
