The Stranger

The Stranger

A Poem by Bala Gorthi

You sneaked into my private room one fine day
Your sharp mischievous eyes reflect a dark bay

You looked cool and sharp in your fearless plight

You watched my raw beauty to your heart's delight

I pushed you out but shamelessly you popped in
You know my many secrets, but, that's no big sin
I know you won't blurt them out till your last breath
So I cannot grace my alien guest with my fiery wrath

The family doesn't want your presence anymore
Our bond is already sparking nasty fights n big furore
You are already cut off from your kin and your world
Our love affair is day by day getting thick and bold

Dear, do you plan to spend your life in my little bathroom?
Little Toady, go out to your friends grow and nicely groom.

Author's Note

This is for my little visitor, a small frog , who inadvertently entered my house and sneaked into bathroom and is not willing to go and I am enjoying its stay. The naughty one is escaping my catch.

I first interpreted this as the speaker trying to get rid of a stalker, but the poem never directly said that so I wasn't sure. I then read the last line and voila, it all made sense. This is a cute, lighthearted write, almost child-like in a way. I really like how that vibe sets in at the last line. I think the story itself is fun in that it shows how we can find pleasure in the most unusual things (a frog in your case). On top of that, the title fits the piece perfectly. Nicely penned :)

First I would like to give great thanks for composing and sharing this piece. I love the way of expressing your thought on relationship and love affairs particularly the metaphors that you have used your thought. It relates to me indirectly. Indeed some stranger, who never want to go away, enter in our life. In reality such person is not a stranger. keep it up.

Gee
Yep, I was with Papaya on this, thought it to be some fella your family didn't want in your life...a frog, should have kissed it, might have turned into your Prince.

One funny poem showing the dilemma of a person who has one small and strange uninvited guest in the bathroom. Interesting piece.

Smiling here. This is so cute! I can picture the frog hiding in the corner of your bathroom. No, I would not want him to stay either and surely someone in your family will find a way to get him out of there! Good wordplay in this one. Lydi**
