Melancholy

Melancholy

A Poem by baileybennett22

The days, like pages turned endlessly
She was a mess of gorgeous chaos.
Her eyes, like mine, grew sorrowful
I was riddled with disarray.

Months paved, solidifying my heart
She grew into the stone, hardened.
Her tears, like mine, froze like chandeliers
I was pierced with dismay.

Years dawned, rising mercilessly
She became apathetic, sentimentality diminished.
Her face formed into rock, impassive
I was in love with melancholy.

Death becomes us, until we become it
She passed on quietly, without a sound.
Her face froze, like her heart
I was left to dig the ground.

Her tears, like mine, froze like chandeliers - yes, so poetic I don't even know what it means. Heart, stone, frozen - all no. When I read poetry, I picture that TV show family feud. 'A poem about a black man's skin..' Survey says - chocolate, silk, smooth. If you partner one word with a word the survey audience would offer first = bad. My heart is? Survey says.. stone, cold, hard, sad. Minimum rule long before syllable counts and forms is unique word associations. Kill me with unique.
