Beauty and a Beast

Beauty and a Beast

A Chapter by Bailee Biby

‘How can you run from what’s inside your head? - Alice in Wonderland’

I always seem to do best thinking when I am not at home, in hell. When I walk along the streets on earth, when I see the different emotions these mere souls can make and tolerate.  Somehow it soothes my insane train of thoughts.

I decided to park my soul in the United States today in the sunny state of Oklahoma, the sun was setting as I sat myself down on a rooftop. I breathed the crisp spring air letting the coolness fill my soul with delight. I wish I could live like this always. Peaceful. Being the son of the devil doesn’t make that easy.

I watched as a truck pulled into the driveway the engine turned off I could hear the driver sigh and then open the door.

A girl stepped out of the truck, this girl didn’t look like any mortal I had seen before. She was pure in every way. Her skin did not hold one blemish and her hair not one broken strand, her body did not hold a large stomach of any extra weight. He skin was tan and her hair a sunshiny brown as if caramel candy and her eyes glowed like the sun. Her soul was the most extraordinary part of her, instead of being stained with black bruises or bleeding crimson it was pure white sparkling like the stars. This girl was blameless in almost everyway.

She was beauty.

She was the beauty my eyes had never gotten a glimpse of.

Her beauty and pureness made my eyes burn and my skin catch fire. But I didn’t care.

She got out of the car and ran across the yard to a four-wheeler. She hopped on it and drove into a large cow pasture. I flew close to her the entire time.

I had never had such a feeling, it was as if she was the thing keeping me flying. Mere words couldn’t say more.

Everything was perfect until I saw something flying on the horizon, I couldn’t make it out until it got closer, and then I saw it.

It was Adriel, the Angel.

~Victory is never promised. -William Shakespeare~

Adriel flew faster than any angel I had ever known, my body tightened with nervousness. I hated coming in contact with angels. I hated it so much. See most demons came into this spirit world with their beginning starting in heaven and then choosing to go to hell, not I. I have longed to be an angel from the time I had my first encounter with one, the beautiful white wings and amazing sharp and bold swords. Bu I was born into this, my Father sleeping with another demon and forming me. Most thought it impossible, but I was proof it was not.

I knew flying away would do me more harm than it would good so I simply put my wings down and went into human form.

Once Adriel saw my complete surrender he slowed his speed and went to the earth as well.

“Abaddon!” He said, his voice as bold and brave as I remember.

“Adriel?”

“What are you doing following this human? This human is set apart. The LORD forbids you to even look upon her.” He said, now walking towards me.

“He has no say in what I do nor in how I spend my time. I am a demon after all, the LORD does not even want to look upon my face.”

“That is enough Abaddon. I know how the Holy one feels towards you, we need not bring it up.”

“Why are you here Adriel?”

“I have been sent by the Spirit to stop you. To stop you from following this young mortal.”

“Why?”

“I do not know, I also do not need to know. They are orders and I intended to follow them.”

“Adriel…you know I have never been too good with orders.” I smiled and bit my lip.

“I have no time for your games. Return from where you came from demon.”

I turned my back to him.

Angels trust to easily. I think that even if they knew you were lying you could convince them you were not. I had been in this situation before and I will be in it again, I knew what to do.

“Fine. Until we meet again Adriel.”

I made my wings come out with fire blazing on them, as I pushed myself off the ground and took off I watched him. I watched him until he stopped watching me. I watched him until he smiled and flew the other direction.

As I neared the trees by the mortal girl’s house I laughed out loud. I always thought angels would never fall for that. Every time I thought that they would be smarter. They never were. They were too trusting. Although I envied it, it is not a great personality trait. Especially if you are dealing with demons.

As I controlled my laughter I flew to the roof of the house again. The girl was just getting back from her ride. I watched as she ran her fingers thru her hair when she got off. Her smile could light up this whole world. She ran over to the house and ran her fingers thru the wind chimes she kept her smile as she sat on the porch swing.

I was still in awe of her happiness, I haven’t ever seen a mortal like her. How can she be so happy? So…joyful and bright. In a world plagued by sin and darkness and evil how does she remain so clean and white and spotless?
