Godless Grace

Godless Grace

A Poem by J F Dangerfield
"

A poem loosely based on a religious conversion. Short, because I was too busy to write a story today. Day 3.

"

So long since the words sped across the seas.

Whispers that travelled like shooting stars;

Like balloons caught in impossible breeze.

Now the closeness, too near to fathom,

Too much change to be believed.

But no singing seraphim on lonely bastions

Beautify, exalted and with infinite ease

The face that until thus long evaded my gaze.

But silent and alone, waiting in a copse of trees,

Eyes still clear through the shifting haze,

Is the testament to why I, a man on his knees

Was raised up and empowered by godless grace.

I really don't like it personally, but time is running out for Day 3.

I admit to reading it too quickly the first time, but going over it slowly a second (and third) time allowed me to better appreciate the rhythm and rhyme. I really like this, and fail to see why you cannot. The words and phrases are beautiful; simple but complex and intriguing. It's a great piece.
