No need to escape

Dreams fill the stars that swish through the darkness of the heavens

with the intensity so hot it singes your eyes

like flames roaring upward through an open fire.

Smoke challenges your wisdom as breaths of air becomes scares,  

a bit woozy, oxygen fails you, as you gasp for each breath. 

 

Stars become patterns, connecting lines and dots,

as you wonder how beautiful one’s imagination

surrendering hopelessly to another’s heart.  

Did the gods perform a miracle before your very teary eyes

or is it the absence of oxygen eluding your mind.

 

The night becomes day as rays of light ignite your vision.

The brightness so intense you feel yourself squint.

The scents of fresh water trickling down moss cover rocks,

causes you to continue to dream in a land of make believe.

Has common sense failed your wisdom like candy to a child.

Maybe you think you have lost your way, digging through your concealed files.

 

You pinch yourself hoping to awake,

knowing that no one knows you better than your subconscious forsakes,

while you continue to dream and play along,

you notice such beauty dictating the right from wrong.

The water gets louder and serenading your soul,

your heart beats faster as a smile fills your face,

finally realizing, your mind is your friend and there is no need to escape.
