When you need a friend

(you must talk to a friend)

 

It’s been a while

since I’ve seen your smile

or heard the soft whispers

over your crimson lips,

never a harsh word spoken

from your golden tongue

 

Today again, we meet…

 

Our conversations run deep,

Draining into the night

you dotting my I’s

and I crossed my T’s

 

I thought …

 

I could talk to you about anything,

the colors in the skies

Why the stars are so far?

Why life is so short,

and the inanimate so long?

 

Remembering your responses…

 

Your responses were always the same

a jester with the nose,

a twinkle with the eye,

a shift of the head,

then your words like puzzles

with the wind they mix

and the answer just appears

inside the canvas of my head

 

 

I ponder a question…

 

You love to ask me questions

of why I do this or that

 

I thought to myself

you’re God, so you should know

but I would bite my tongue

and tell you the truth

 

Here we go again…

 

So my dear boy Ralphy

Why are you so concerned,

if nobody else is?

You have a kind heart,

but why do you push it?

 

My reaction…

 

I just look at her

in her beautiful color array

smile as I would normally …

 

Then in a soft voice I say…

 

My special friend,

you know the answer to this

every time we meet

you ask that type question

why do I do for others?

Why do I care if they don’t

So forth and so on…

 

Well today, I have one for you

My dear God

How are you, on this special day?

 

 

 

There is only one friend

You can honestly talk to,

about anything

anytime

and anyplace

that does not prejudge you

 

So when you need a friend,

find a comfortable space

sit back and relax

then drift

while you’re drifting

you’ll find a wonder spot

 

That, that you see,

is your friend

Talk to that friend

Let that friend know

You pain,

let your tears fall

where they may

As well as your beauty

let your smile guild the way

 

Everything around you

becomes peaceful

When all is said

and done

You’ll wonder,

did I just speak?

 

One word of advice,

Everyone loves to be asked

How they are…

and  a friend is no different
