Touch

Touch

A Poem by Ralphy

Touch

Doesn’t matter if

you’re a man or woman

boy or girl,

it’s the touch

that makes us human

to feel a hand on your face

your thighs

lips to lips

arm to arm

Doesn’t’ matter

who you are,

it’s our laughter

that makes us human

those squiggly lines

between your ears

rock that tune

that makes you happy

just another form of touch

Doesn’t matter

who you are,

it’s our taste

that makes us human

dancing tongues

over and under

pressing, sucking

our loving emotions

yes, yes it is…

another form of touch

Doesn’t matter

who you are,

it’s our smell

that makes us human

perfume, cologne

scents that drive each

other wild

night or day

you got it…

another form of touch

Finally,

doesn’t matter

who you are

it’s our sight

that makes us human

eye to eye

looking deep inside

like a wormhole

down to your soul

you bet …

another form of’ touch

and that’s what make us

different

loving

caring

humans

Great job. I am poor at being touched and often seek physicl isolation, but that is just me. I instinctively know your poem is right though. I reckon this wld be a great poem for kids to read also. Anything that humanises us the more is great. Also the sort of touch you describe helps to break down inhibitions which if not broken down can lead to the natural instinct to touch and touch being pent up...and leading to disastrous forms of touch. Like the zigzags!

"That's what makes us different" I liked the repeating drum beat of this line. Reminding us of how much more we connect to each other then the animals do. (Although admittedly their sense of smell and smelling each other - you have to admit - has us beat!)

Anyway, good write....

It is the human touch that fills us with a sense of being loved.........touch is crucial. Without it, I would die.

Ralphy, this is so profound. Touch is so powerful and convey much more than words could ever say. A fantastic piece of writing my friend!

Yes there are many forms of touch and not all are physical... a simple song on the radio can touch your memories, a story on the news can touch your humanity and simple gestures from a loved one can touch your heart. Beautifully laid out my friend.

A very humanistic approach to the character of mankind...these things most make us human, so true and so like the animal that nuzzles my hand when the dog wants petting. I think more on the dreams; the aspirations and imaginations of my fellow beings than on their clumsy outer shells. I want souls to touch; ideals to be shared; love to become unconditional and those things which make us most like gods. I loved this poem though because it made me think on how I defined my own humanity and great poetry should move us in such a way. In my opinion, human nature forms a base from which we begin to grow but it is not the code by which we are determined to live; but rather a challenge to be confronted and in time, overcame. A great write.
