Game Of Chess/Or willful in Deceit

A Poem by Ralphy
"

This is just a story told by little old me

"

Game Of Chess/Or willful in Deceit

Yesterday I played a pro in a game of chess.
I felt so assure of each move I made.
I used a point system to build my defense.
My pawns protected my knights
In turn, they protected my bishops.
My bishops protected my rooks
Which in turned protected my queen
All in all she protected my King…so I win…

Yesterday a pro played me in the game of life.
We’ll call it a he
He swindled all my money by gambling in deceit
The interest went up and my salary remained the same
My house payment exceeded my income
Food became secondary
The banks foreclosed and it was a sad day

Hundreds of thousands followed until
The institutions began to fold
The surrounding business followed
Thousands lost their jobs
Then they too lost their homes
And food became a luxury
Depressed and dazed they cry out for help
No one’s listening, no one cared

Then out of nowhere, it reaches epic proportion
The government buckles to save the greedy ones
For if they didn't it would become a depression
In return, those without suffer the burden
Yesterday I played a pro in a game of logic
Yesterday a pro played me in a game of deceit.

Fine piece of semi metaphorical writing about what's been going on in our world, what IS going on. We're all being conned by the people who wield the big sticks of position, power and money... but they're been caught and, who's going to suffer for it... the 'ordinary man' on the street.

OOOps politics rearing its ugly head

This is a fine, fine write, one I understand and, bitterly regret has to be written

'Yesterday I played a pro in a game of logic / Yesterday a pro played me in a game of deceit.'

Thank you very much for sharing such a powerful piece of writing.

Living in Michigan as well I feel your pain. I love the progression of Food became secondary then food became a luxury. Great write. Hopefully the bleeding in all of our lives will stop. I look forward to reading more of your work. If you get a chance check me out.

Wow, what metaphors Ralphy. Greed is a b***h as you clearly take hold of the reader. A game of chess...indeed..

So exceptional!

Very deep thought process here. How naive we humans have been, taking full advantage of our luxuries, never expecting life to become so hard. Now we have to struggle to make it.

Your language throughout this piece is naturally flowing and I wanted to keep reading on and on.

Your writing gets better every time I read it. I see so much growth. Way to go!

Excellent ! I love the metaphors ... wonderfully done!
The poor get poorer... this is one of those topics I could write for hours about.
I love this piece and the way you've lined it all up ... comparisions. Winner vs loser..
playing vs. getting played...

Brilliant piece Ralphie.

Excellent piece, Ralphie. What are we to do about this predicament? It seems as though it will never end. As long as there is political corruption, there will always be fallout on the working class. The rich do the dirty deeds and get richer and the everyday people suffer the consequences of the actions.

Great use of chess as a metaphor. Great Poem!

Ralphy, this is very well thought out and the metaphoral description is nicely
dyed into the fabric of the meaning, to compare chess to the u.s economy
yea, i can see where it is a losing battle and only the pros have the true edge
in sayin and pointing fingers in congress. sad to say, yet this writing
shares a bit of encouragement and information. Excellent poem. thanks for sharing

The thing about a game of chess is that every move is always visible by your opponent. It all comes down to if you or your opponent is willing to see what is on the board.

The economy is a similar situation... Many people should have seen what was coming, but they were too busy snapping up new homes at basement level interest rates. I was one myself, should of seen it all coming, yet I didn't.

And of course, in the economy the stakes are higher than any game of chess. It sounds like someone attempted a "scholars mate" and ended up burned.

Great poem!

I don't know a lot about this subject, but it was written well, from beg to end.

Such a fitting poem, esp in our day and age with our slagging economy and the wrong people in the white house. And great job of using the metaphor of the chess table to explain your theme in such a poetic way.
