Selene

Selene

A Poem by J. B.

I wonder if you know.
Can you feel it too?
the stone sinks and
the feather floats
and both tossed, effortlessly
by the pull of the Moon.
Hephaestus strikes the anvil,
hammer in hand and fire in heart
and the mountain stands firm,
deeply rooted and reaching for infinity,
tossing stones into the waters of the world
and casting shadows in the night.
Selene sits behind the winged chariot
enchanting me, enticing me to look up
reaching down to touch my shoulders,
beckoning me to behold the light
and teaching me the comforts of the dark.

A very beautiful poem dedicated to the Moon Goddess Selene who travels the sky at night in her chariot pulling the moon behind her, in Greek Mythology. Some people feel the pull of the moon more than others, but its magic enchants us all. I love this poem and how the moon brings comfort in the dark to the poet as she sheds her light to show him the way. Excellent use of metaphor in this finely penned poem and superb visual detail also. Wonderful write! I so enjoyed reading. Thank you for sharing, dear poet...
