10-65

10-65

A Poem by J. B.
"

These are the lyrics of another song of mine, addressing the ongoing racism towards people of color: particular blacks. Warning. Racial slang is included in this piece. Enjoy

"

Verse:

His daughter holds his hand tight
little brown eyes observe the world, wide and learns fast
her father gets stopped as he passes the liquor store and shaken down

for no other reason than for taking a walk with his little girl and having skin

that’s brown and I can see

her frown
as her innocence leaves her
and it’s gone, gone for good.

Chorus:

Cause little black babies grow up with tentative maybe’s

of being okay

surviving the fray and that’s the way

the world works here

In the land of the great US(of)A
and when we yell “f**k the popo” what we really scream

is for the right to grow old, so down

with the 5-0 for the fight to be alive

cause we all live in a constant 10-65

Verse:

fight for survival in concrete jungles
and urban rurals and sidewalk stops lead to prison bars

and cars pulled over at the red light could mean death or life
life or death is a constant question of if I die tomorrow will I be remembered

for being a good father raising his daughter or just another black body forgotten
in a society that is rotten to it’s core and I want to crumble that foundation
until the term n****r is gone
gone for good.

Chorus:

Cause little black babies grow up with tentative maybe’s

of being okay

surviving the fray and that’s the way

the world works here

In the land of the great US(of)A
and when we yell “f**k the popo” what we really scream

is for the right to grow old, so down

with the 5-0 for the fight to be alive

cause we all live in a constant 10-65

Seems like a good song....

Lyrics are hard hitting and truthful, realistic to modern American society. Not sure what the title means as an outsider, though. Perhaps something to share with those of us not from the US of A.

I am sure these lyrics will hit a chord with many. Pun intended.
