do you see color?A Poem by J. B.
people
the passerby with vague expressions; the foretelling of the oblivious. bald heads, red heads limping left leg of an old woman carrying bundles of groceries in brown paper bags down sidewalks, uneven and cracked long over-due to be paved anew distant eyes scan the distant shapes of concrete buildings and blocky yellow taxi-cabs blank eyes scan the world around her, expressionless, as her feet propel her forward, subconscious in manner an impetuous movement Do you see color, I wonder or only the dull gray cement pavement that coils its' way through this concrete jungle; as the emotionless expression on your face would suggest look closer, my dear, and the vibrance of the world becomes clear in the lives that surround you blue eyes, pink dyed hair tan wrinkles and brown freckles long scraggly white beards with gold-tinted ends; a reflection of many seasons, many places and tugging little fingers that pulled in hopes of it belonging to St. Nick these colors tell stories and I see your colors despite the gray cloak of disposition you indignantly wear but you still bump right into me, as if you hadn't noticed me walking towards you the opposite direction. you don't acknowledge the interaction. Ignorance is color blind
