The Lovely Death

The Lovely Death

A Poem by Pen The Willows

How lovely this death

Like a pool of melted rubies

She takes her last breath

As they do in the movies

Her boyfriend is standing there

He cannot speak

Trying to hold back a tear

He feels so weak

He grabs her cold hand

Gives her one last kiss

She had one last demand

She wants him with her in bliss

He can't live without her

He won't even try

His future is a blur

He starts to cry

He reaches for his pocket knife

Flips open the blade

He won't go on with all the strife

It's the choice that he's made

As he plunges it into his heart

He gives one last goodbye

He doesn't want to depart

His last words will not lie

That day, that boy died

In the arms of his love

And then the whole town cried

For their lost ones above
