When You Want to Dance

When You Want to Dance

A Poem by Dezaraye

The notes start to ring
And my body starts to sway.
I can't keep doing this
For another day.

I sit back and watch
The music rings through me.
I long to be in motion
I'm as restless as the sea.

My feet are held captive,
And it's trapping my soul.
I start to go insane,
I'm losing my control.

I'm feeling so trapped,
These feet were made for dancing.
Made for moving and spinning;
For walking, running, prancing.

I long for the day
This crutch will be gone.
When I can walk on my own,
And not feel so withdrawn.

In the meantime I wait
And try to let my spirit take wing,
I feel the music ring through me,
And instead of dancing ... I sing.

Author's Note

Dezaraye
Just some thoughts on feeling trapped ... today, the meaning for this piece is literal. I want to be off the crutches, moving around again, dancing again ... even just plain old walking again.

There are deeper meanings, though, too ... there will always be things that are in the way ... crutches that impede progress and keep me down in the dumps. It's then that we must find a new way to keep our spirits fed.

Enjoy, my friends!

A deep seeded loneliness is what I find here. A sense of not knowing who you are and who you are meant to be, the struggle to fight through life and see the good even in the bad. This was a beautiful poem and there was so much emotion and depth to it. Wonderful write. You will dance once again but the music always lives in your soul.

It's easy to pick up subtle hidden meanings, besides your simply wanting to get off those crutches. This was a pleasure to read. Get better soon. Love, Rain..

You really get your frustration across, and I really like the resolution. Can't dance? So sing! Very lovely sentiment. Your poem does seem a bit confined by its rhyme scheme at times, but you work with it pretty well.
