Dreaming

A Story by Dezaraye
"

My favorite things ...

"

I dream of meadows with smiling and dancing flowers; the sky is so blue that I could swim through its waves.  Fluffy, white clouds prance in the air and fill my mind with images of cotton candy and summertime.  There's a magestic peak off to my left holding a small village in its embrace, the green hills rolling behind and getting lost in the horizon while the sun stretches warm, loving fingers across the earth.  I see a tree heavy with springtime blossoms, branches gloriously sweeping to the earth bathing the grass in drifting petals.  The fragrance of lilac and wildflowers fill my entire soul and send me more deeply into my dreams.

I open my heart and let my soul fly up into the sky all the while breathing deeply.  Almost so deeply that it makes me dizzy.  I can sense the fullness within myself.  As if on their own, my arms float up above my head, fingers spread widely and I spin slowly in a circle, feeling my feet lift up as well.  Before I know it, I'm flying and drifting through those fluffy clouds, feeling lightness inside of me and all around me.  My eyes flutter closed and soft eyelashes brush my cheek.  My face lifts towards the sun and I can see the soft yellow beams behind my eyelids, the beauty entering my vision even through closed eyes.  My hair tickles my back and sweeps gently back and forth while I continue to drift through my dreams.

My fingers move through my hair and I open my eyes to watch the soft curls slide through my fingers and shiver as the tendrils fall back against my skin - a small, whispering tickle.  I see an image in the corner of my vision and I turn my head slowly to watch a small robin fly up alongside me.  Offering my finger, a smile lights across my lips when the robin comes to rest upon it, puffing out his vibrant chest and sharing with me the sweetest of songs as only a robin can.

Continuing our journey through the magnificent sky, I feel my body begin to drift back to the earth.  The fullness inside of me slowly decreases and I feel a heaviness in my limbs.  Pushing off my finger the robin lifts and soars through the sky on his own while I drift back down to the earth.  Blades of grass tickle my senses and raise goosebumps on my skin when I come to rest upon the dewy freshness.  I feel the droplets of water rest against me and begin to trace their way down my arms leaving a shimmery trail.  I follow the water slowly with my hands, feeling the goosebumps recede.  My chest expands as I inhale and I move my hands to my belly and feel my belly flatten as I exhale.

The heaviness settles inside me and my limbs are left weak and motionless while my eyes drift closed again.  My breath comes in small puffs and I feel myself begin to emerge from my beautiful dreamland.  I feel the weight of my blankets on top of me and the firmness of my bed beneath me.  There is sunlight streaming through the window and landing upon my face.

For a few brief moments, I allow myself to indulge in the peace still within me from my dream.  I blink my eyes a few times and allow them to adjust to my surroundings before I sit up, stretch, and slowly crawl out of bed to greet the new day.

Dezaraye, the imagery in this is breath taking. Dreams can be a beautiful means of escape for so many. Have you ever had one in which it was soooo good, you wanted to dream forever? This reminds me of one of those dreams! You have an INCREDIBLE knack for visualizing and and expressing yourself with amazing lucidity! Very nicely done, my friend!

There is nothing lame about this at all. You write from the heart. You create a dream that I would love to have myself because of your wonderful descriptions.

This seems to be a great exercise in description and you've done a wonderful job. You've brought in all the senses and served them a grand meal.

No, not lame! I believe the things we love need to be expressed to others because the others could love those things too...and I love the purity in this piece...well done...

Okay, I think your jury has clearly spoken...you must remove that "lame" comment! :)

This is wonderfully whimsical, very soothing. Your first lines immediately conjure memories and images of cootonwoods in bloom, and wildflower filled green meadows high in the Wasatch Mountains in late spring and summer....oh, how I loved those alpine meadows, and looking up to see the wonderfulk white puffs of cloud skittering across gorgeous Utah blue skies. How wonderful it would be to fly effortlessly among those clouds...you have taken us there. Very nice.

You definitely worked the imagery into this one. It was peaceful and smooth, everything a dream world should be. The end seems so sad compared to the carefree calm that you exude in the beginning with all the powers of the late spring and early summer. Beautiful words.

By know means is this lame... you brought to life a beautiful dream and dreams are a great thing as we imagine those things we could never do... I've often had dreams of flying but by no means was it as beautiful as what you described... you have a quite a talent of drawing the reader into your world.
