The Seed

The Seed

A Poem by Dezaraye
"

It's within us all.

"

So tiny it lies
Beneath the ground.
Overwhelming piles of sludge
Holding it captive.

Tendrils of frost
Reach down with long fingers
Teasing and tormenting
Chilling.

At last a ray of light
And warmth seeps down to
A shivering, shaking seed
Overwhelmed and insignificant.

The sun's rays embrace it
Warming and comforting
And at last the seed stretches
Toward the light

Pushing through the muck
And allowing nothing to stand in its way
Working, straining
At last it's above the ground.

Nothing can stop it now
Hope becomes its mantra
And even rainy days strengthen it
Until, one day, it stands tall.

It stands strong against the wind
And mighty against the storms
Sometimes it bends and sways
But never does it break.

Something insignificant
Has grown to something great
Weathering the storms
And reaching for the light.

This isn't the best I've ever written, but it comes from inside me while I'm nurturing my own seed and trying to help it grow ...

THe thought that kept coming to mind was our one fight to grow and stand and be strong. We are the seed, too. This is a wonderful write, Dezaraye. Thank you for sending it to me. I always look forward to returning the many wonderful reviews you've given me.

Another fine piece of poetry! Your grasp of sublety in painting your imagery continues to grow and impresses me by the depth of your feelings! A wonderful word picture you have planted in the minds of your readers, and like your seed (or yourself), you sprout new and marvelous ideas! :)

it may not be your best , yet. It speaks a lot though.. True the seed faces many challenges head on, as tiny it is it gorws in to a nenormous tree... wonderful write

Very nice, Desaraye. Such a positive tone to it. The ones that come from inside ourselves are always good, whether we realize it or not. Well done.

Beautiful write. I kept thinking of the seed that was this poem starting to germinate and grow.
And grow it did, into a very beautiful poem.
Thank you so much for sharing this with me.
Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the read request.

I like this part:

It stands strong against the wind
And mighty against the storms

But I don't like this:

But never does it break.

This poems doesn't do it for me. I think you are using the seed as a metaphor for your own growth, but there are not enough similarities in the poem to point to it. This poem doesn't have a WTF factor in it. A good poem always has a WTF factor. Tell me something new and enlightening, or dark and disturbing. Make the reader feel something deeply.

Just my two cents worth.

As you have done with this wonderful emotive description of winter turning to spring. Dezaraye, you've done a very fine job of expressing this feeling for a seed coming from hibernation and "reaching for the light" A good read.

I love the nice message and the extended metaphor of the seed that we all need to nurture and help grow.
