The Seed

The Seed

A Poem by Dezaraye
"

It's within us all.

"

So tiny it lies
Beneath the ground.
Overwhelming piles of sludge
Holding it captive.

Tendrils of frost
Reach down with long fingers
Teasing and tormenting
Chilling.

At last a ray of light
And warmth seeps down to
A shivering, shaking seed
Overwhelmed and insignificant.

The sun's rays embrace it
Warming and comforting
And at last the seed stretches
Toward the light

Pushing through the muck
And allowing nothing to stand in its way
Working, straining
At last it's above the ground.

Nothing can stop it now
Hope becomes its mantra
And even rainy days strengthen it
Until, one day, it stands tall.

It stands strong against the wind
And mighty against the storms
Sometimes it bends and sways
But never does it break.

Something insignificant
Has grown to something great
Weathering the storms
And reaching for the light.

This isn't the best I've ever written, but it comes from inside me while I'm nurturing my own seed and trying to help it grow ...

THe thought that kept coming to mind was our one fight to grow and stand and be strong. We are the seed, too. This is a wonderful write, Dezaraye. Thank you for sending it to me. I always look forward to returning the many wonderful reviews you've given me.

I have to agree a great metaphor using the seed and as the poem progresses it grows. I like the stanza with the storm but the tree won't break or snap....great work!

The imagery is powerful here and a great metaphor for someone fighting to stand tall and strong against the odds. Keep nurturing that seed... seems you are standing strong as a beautiful flower!

Very hopeful, and full of springtime this one is.
Isn't' it amazing that even the mighty Redwood tree springs from a small seed?

I how I do love metaphors. They're like a painting in a gallery, waiting to be looked at, and waiting to give each spectator something unique to walk away with. You have done just that here. "Hope becomes its mantra And even rainy days strengthen it" I loved this line a lot. May we push through the soil and the hard weather to stand up above it all.

Beautifully penned.

This is perfect! Very nice the way it weaves back and forth between inspiration and commentary. It's does both jobs superbly!

I love this, the strenght of the seed, needing light, like so many people, almost a metaphoric write
for me. How strong a seed is............

Sometimes it bends and sways
But never does it break.

Your words make me smile..........full of hope and wonder something so little can be so mighty!

The seed bursting forth with new life through the sprouting process is an analogy to so many different things...Believe it or not the wind of adversity is what makes its roots go down deep into the ground providing it with the strength to make it into a strong plant. So it is with us, trials and tribulation will make us or break us, but more often than not, the trials are responsible for strengthening us. As I look back over my life I see how far I have come...I appreciate you taking the time to write this...I don't think I've ever read a poem you have written. Well done, my friend. You picked a wonderful subject matter and it is a very thought provoking write...

Oh, a hopeful piece, Dez, filled with a wonderful sense that through struggle, even the lowly seed can gain root and grow in a strong flower. This piece speaks to all little seeds everywhere, working and struggling to become what they are destined to become. A little tending by a loving gardener can give the seed the help needed to fruition. Beautiful poem. Cheers! Rob
