The Seed

The Seed

A Poem by Dezaraye
"

It's within us all.

"

So tiny it lies
Beneath the ground.
Overwhelming piles of sludge
Holding it captive.

Tendrils of frost
Reach down with long fingers
Teasing and tormenting
Chilling.

At last a ray of light
And warmth seeps down to
A shivering, shaking seed
Overwhelmed and insignificant.

The sun's rays embrace it
Warming and comforting
And at last the seed stretches
Toward the light

Pushing through the muck
And allowing nothing to stand in its way
Working, straining
At last it's above the ground.

Nothing can stop it now
Hope becomes its mantra
And even rainy days strengthen it
Until, one day, it stands tall.

It stands strong against the wind
And mighty against the storms
Sometimes it bends and sways
But never does it break.

Something insignificant
Has grown to something great
Weathering the storms
And reaching for the light.

THe thought that kept coming to mind was our one fight to grow and stand and be strong. We are the seed, too. This is a wonderful write, Dezaraye. Thank you for sending it to me. I always look forward to returning the many wonderful reviews you've given me.

A seed has the power to split a great rock, and yours is probably going to do just that!

Nicely done, Dezaraye. It is catorized with those bits of writing that bespeak of difficult times, low self images, persistence in spite of everything else, darkness, coldness, aloneness, a bit of hope, a struggle to live, a pushing toward that one bit of hope until breaking free ... only to find more difficulties but bending and never breaking. I like it, obviously. :) I'm a sucker for the insignificant who struggle to succeed anyway.

Cheers!
Doc.

What a fantastic write... I know your writing of a seed but I see it as a metaphor for a person growing from child to adult, your writing is so brilliant and your humanity shows in everything you write... I will say you were a seed that grew into be a beautiful orchid.

this is beautiful and hopeful writing. I have been in the 'sludge' lately waiting to sprout - and this speaks to that part of me with eloquence.

So many things came to mind when I read this. I thought about a seedling tree and how it grows so big and strong despite what nature throws at it and I wonder why an intelligent human being, such as myself, can struggle so bad to surivive in even the meekest of storms.

Parenthood is such a blessing. I'm only now realizing, after 9 years, how important my sons really are to me and how I wish I could go back and do it over again, keeping the knowledge and experiences I have now so that I may help my sons be stronger in this God forsaken world.

I wish you well with your new life. It's truely a treasure and a blessing and always remember, just be the best Mom you can be and dont let anyone take that from you.

I really liked this poem. It did cheer me up a bit today =) Thank you for a great read.

Reminds me of a study I did in high school on seeds. The instructor taught us about the many different types of seeds, how they grew, how some turned into trees, others beautiful flowers, and then he turned it around and told us that each and every one of us was also a seed. He said we all come from different lifestyles and will eventually grow into either something strong and wonderful, or depending on our choices something like a thorn. Then he looked straight at me when he said that. LOL
But anywho great work.

I thought that this was a beautiful piece. It is a great metaphor for growth, the piece's structure flows very well and you give great imagery all the way through.

I really liked this. Hope is always there one just has to see it and fight for it. Portraying these sorts of things as a flower trying to burst forth through icy ground was perfect. Great write!
