A Look Remembered

A Look Remembered

A Poem by Robert J. Huntley

A thought today

of a moment

that didn’t happen

Had I been quicker

older or better

perhaps it would’ve

You wondered why

I railed against it

while I wondered

how I couldn’t

The sinking feeling between us

pulled apart the ground

A gaping maw now cackles

in the place

where the ground once stood

On the rare occasion

I sneak a glance

across the divide

towards the place

I last saw you

Your face was cold

your eyes brimmed

with sad hatred

There is nothing now

but a cloud

casting shadows in the distance

I am out of the shade now

and back in the sun

Yet I still find myself wondering

what might this all look like

through your eyes

Then and now

In hindsight and fore

Did you see me coming

or at all

I wonder sometimes

if it was ever as real

as either of us imagined

After a year long self imposed exile from Writer's Cafe I have returned. I will not be re-posting whatever pieces I lost in the great crash. If you are one of the few who read my older work, and for.. more..
