Blurred

Blurred

A Story by Busola S. Kolade
"

Sometimes, you only see what you want to see.

"
If it's not right it's wrong,
That's the rule of this game, He said.
Why do I feel like I don't belong?
I sit, it stare, I listen,
Hoping to find anyone like me.
I look across the room and caught eyes watching me,
I feel trapped in a gaze shimmering in the shadows,
The gaze that seems to be staring into my soul.
"It's your turn" I heard someone say
The voice seems to far away
I am lost in this gaze
Now the voice came nearer
I look away,
Then to my right
I nodded and moved closer,
I pick up the pen and paper,
I write,
I folded the paper and passed it on,
Hoping it'll find someone like me.
I sit, I stare, I listen,
The paper stops,
She reads it out loud.
It is not right, He said
But it is not wrong either, She said
So which is it? He asked
I looked for my gaze,
Ha! Found you!
I don't need the paper.
A gaze yet unmoving
I'm lost again
I hear an argument, so far away.
I hear voices,
Voices asking "so which is it?"
What are they talking about?
I don't care,
I'm lost in the shimmering gaze.
Another voice, so far away.
"Let's begin again"
NO!
I look away
Then to the left
Let's call it a night, she said
Yeah, i'm tired anyway, He said
Okay, good night peeps, He said
Goodnight everyone, she said
He left, she left
She left, he left
I stand to leave
I looked down
My shimmering gaze remained unmoving
I moved closer
My shimmering gaze remained unmoving
Closer still
And then I saw
Blow out the candles and let's go, she said
My shimmering gaze sat there unmoving
Two candles placed on a stool to set the gaming atmosphere
My mind concocted a shimmering gaze
My loneliness made it real
My blurred vision didn't help either
I didn't find anyone like me,
I found a shimmering gaze in the candles
A gaze that stared into my soul.
Damn! I really should get my glasses fixed.
I blew out the candles
Goodnight, I said.
